When you try to check your POP3 email account, you may get one of the following error messages:
  • Task 'smtp server name - Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x8004210A): 'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provide (ISP).'
  • A time-out occurred while communicating with the server 0x800ccc19
This problem is usually caused by anti-virus software that has an email scanner built in. Most current antivirus packages do have this feature. While this problem doesn't appear very frequently for a user, it seems to be caused by various antivirus programs. Some of the programs include Norton AntiVirus and Internet Security, McAfee, AVG, PCCillin, and a host of others. Best thing to do to resolve this is to try shut off the email scanner. It is easier in some programs but not many. Refer to the software manufacturer for support. ~~~ An example on how to shut off the mail scanner in AVG: To shut off the email scanner in AVG 8.0 do the following:
  • Click on the Components menu
  • Click on Email Scanner
  • Remove the check from Scan incoming messages and click Save Changes below.
